Meet Myriam!
Myriam has been chosen as our volunteer of the month. She wears many hats in the organization. She takes care of moves as a Lead Mover, she does some recruiting and she gives orientation training. She started volunteering for Shelter Movers Montreal at the end of November 2020 and since that time she’s done no less than 17 moves. What she loves most about volunteering with Shelter Movers is the close contact with people; to know that she is clearly making a difference in somebody’s life.
She loves to take charge, to make suggestions for improving processes, knowing that at Shelter Movers her suggestions are being heard and taken into account.
What Myriam has noticed during her moves is that women coming out of abusive relationships can react very differently to traumatic events. This is explained to each of our volunteers during orientation. A skill needed for becoming a volunteer is being empathetic, but not letting the situation get to you, and being able to focus on doing the task at hand: helping a person move their belongings.
She encourages everybody that is thinking of volunteering, to taking the step and sign yourself up. Once you have done your first move and see the impact of what you can accomplish in somebody’s life, you will be signing up to become a regular volunteer at Shelter Movers!
Great job, Myriam, we count ourselves lucky to have you with the team!
Shelter Movers Montreal has decided to celebrate one volunteer per month. Each month one volunteer will be chosen for their dedication and goodwill to the cause. This initiative is made possible with the help of our valued donors. For this activity, we can count on the courtesy of Nathalie and her wonderful gift boxes. Take a look at her website, Cordial Gift Co.
You will certainly find some great gift ideas for a birthday, Mother’s Day or for a next Christmas present.
