“The Ottawa team of Shelter Movers is a dedicated, volunteer-powered group committed to helping survivors of abuse move safely and with dignity into new beginnings. Serving Ottawa and the surrounding regions of Leeds and Grenville, Lanark, Renfrew, Prescott-Russell, and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, the team provides free moving and storage services to individuals and families fleeing violence. Working closely with shelters, social service agencies, law enforcement, security partners, and local businesses, the Ottawa chapter removes one of the most significant barriers survivors face when leaving unsafe situations: the logistics and cost of moving. Through a trauma-informed and survivor-centred approach, the team helps hundreds of individuals each year transition to safety while preserving their belongings, independence, and dignity.”
